About Sam
John Samuel (Sam) Marty, a lifelong rancher and dedicated advocate for South Dakota, brings a wealth of experience and a steadfast commitment to conservative principles to his candidacy for Senate District 28. Born and raised in Harding and Perkins Counties, Sam’s roots in the land and his love for his state run deep, shaping his values and vision for a better South Dakota.
Sam attended high school in Newell and completed one year of college at Black Hills State University before answering the call to serve his country. In 1968, he was drafted into the Army to serve in the Vietnam War. Sam’s bravery and dedication to duty were evident, earning him an honorable discharge in December of 1969, along with the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in battle.
Returning home to South Dakota after his military service, Sam resumed his life as a rancher, working the land in Harding and Perkins Counties. Through years of hard work and dedication, he became deeply ingrained in his community, known for his integrity, resilience, and unwavering commitment to his family and neighbors.
As a lifelong Republican, Sam firmly believes in the principles of limited government, personal responsibility, and individual freedom. He is running once again for Senate District 28 to ensure that these values are upheld and that the rights of private property owners are preserved for future generations of South Dakotans. Sam is committed to limiting the size of state government to keep taxes low and freedom high, advocating for policies that empower individuals and promote economic prosperity across the state.
